The brave heroes who helped rescue a little girl from drowning
The vehicle crashed into Dundee Lake, sinking beneath the water while the driver climbed out and stood on top of the car — leaving the toddler trapped inside, submerged underwater.
When emergency crews arrived, Firefighter Lt. Fetters immediately dove into the water, locating the little girl with the help of Spalding County Deputy Gray, who held tightly onto him to ensure his safety. Deputy Jennifer Fuller then helped bring the child safely to shore.
As soon as they reached land, Deputy Holder began performing CPR without pause, refusing to stop until he saw signs of life. Deputy Zachery Whitmer joined in the life-saving efforts moments later. Thanks to their skill and determination, the child’s pulse returned, and she was rushed by helicopter to the hospital for further treatment.
Authorities say the driver faces multiple charges. The investigation is ongoing.
This harrowing incident could have ended tragically, but thanks to the courage and rapid response of these first responders, a little girl has been given a fighting chance to grow up and thrive.
