Micro-Preemie Born At 1 Lb. 14 Oz. Finally Heads Home After 146 Days In NICU

When Baby Trinity Alexandria Rose Taylor entered the world in April, she weighed just just one pound, fourteen ounces. Born at just 26 weeks, she was what doctors call a “micro-preemie.”

On Wednesday, after nearly five months in the NICU at Catholic Health’s Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre, NY, she finally got the moment her family had been waiting for—going home.

Her parents, LaTashia Morris and David Taylor of Freeport, called the journey nothing short of a rollercoaster.

“And here we are 146 days later, and we’re going home,” LaTashia said, fighting back tears of relief.

Trinity faced every challenge tiny babies often do—issues with her lungs, heart, and eyes—but she proved herself a fighter from day one. Delivered while still inside the embryonic sac, her doctors used the delicate technique to protect her fragile body. From there, it was week after week of critical care, constant monitoring, and countless prayers.

The NICU became a second home for her parents and even her grandmother, Melva. They say the staff did more than provide medical treatment—they gave them hope.

“The nurses and doctors were on me like, ‘Nope, we’re not going down to that dark place. She’s going to be OK,’” LaTashia recalled. “And they really did.”

Mercy’s NICU Director, Dr. Swarna Devarajan, said Trinity’s stay was a record-breaker in her nearly 30-year career.

“Her transformation is a powerful reflection of what advanced NICU care can achieve, and even more, a testament to the strength and spirit of one incredible little girl,” she said.

When the day of her discharge arrived, the hospital made sure it was unforgettable. Staff from across departments lined the hallways, clapping and cheering as Trinity made her exit on a red carpet.

The soundtrack for her sendoff? Her favorite song, Hakuna Matata from The Lion King, which had been played daily at her bedside.

Now weighing a healthy 11 pounds, 8.5 ounces, Trinity is settling into life at home with her family. She’ll return for regular checkups until her second birthday, but for now, her loved ones are cherishing every quiet moment—no wires, no alarms, just baby giggles and hope.
