DEPARTMENT OF WATER SUPPLY – HURRICANE LALA UPDATE
This is a Department of Water Supply (DWS) update for Sunday, August 23, 2026.
Most customers have water supplied through normal DWS infrastructure except for the
following:
Naalehu –limited portion of Waiohinu town supplied by the Naalehu well has been restored. Boil
water notice in effect. Potable Water tanker located across from Ace Hardware.
Waiohinu/Discovery Harbor – located a generator each for boosters at Naalehu Tank and
Waiohinu Houselot tanks. DWS working to transport generator to Naalehu booster on Monday,
August 24, 2026. Potable Water tanker located at Discovery Harbor Clubhouse.
South Point – hauling water from Pahala to South Point tank. Tank is partially filled but will
need to check system for any leaks.
Upper Mountain View (North Peck Road/Ihope Road tank) – hauling water to this tank. In
addition, positioned a water buffalo along North Peck Road for community use.
Kaloko Mauka – limited power restoration. Water service restored to lower portion, up to Kaloko
Tank #3 (above Kaloko Loa St.).

Upper Mountain View:
No Hawaiian Electric (HE) power at DWS Olaa #7 booster and Olaa #8 booster.
Currently running Olaa #7 on generator power. Have deployed water tanker to fill tank at
North Peck Road and Ihope. Also stationed a water buffalo (approximately 400 gallons)
along North Peck Road. DWS customers are asked to use water for essential uses only.
Essential uses are for drinking, cooking, and hygiene purposes.
Hawi:
No HE power at Karpovich booster, currently on generator power. DWS customers are
asked to use water for essential uses only.
Kaloko Mauka
Currently no HE power at Kaloko Mauka #3 tank and above.
Spigots located near Kaloko Mauka tank #3 for customers’ use.
Waiohinu:
No HE power at any of DWS’ sites. Potable water tanker located at Discovery Harbor
Club House, 6am to 6pm. Please limit usage to your essential potable needs only.
Based on 8/22/26 aerial inspection, DWS waterlines to its water sources above Waiohinu
town are significantly damaged and not salvageable. Timeframe to restore has not been
determined at this time.
Naalehu:
No HE power at any of DWS’ Naalehu sites. Naalehu well currently on generator power.
Water from DWS’ Naalehu well currently only supplies water to a very limited portion of
the system, from approximately Naalehu Hongwanji to Ace Hardware.
DWS has issued a precautionary boil water notice for any DWS Naalehu customer who
has water coming from their taps. Precautionary Boil Water notice remains in effect until
DWS can complete a full assessment of the water system, make necessary repairs and
complete water quality testing.
DWS customers are asked to use water for essential uses only.
Spigots located near Assemblies of God – Naalehu church.
Potable water tanker located in Island Market parking lot across from Ace Hardware,
6am to 6pm. Please limit usage to your essential potable needs only.
Waterline between Naalehu Elementary and Punaluu Bakery was severed by flood
waters. On 8/21/26, DWS repaired this waterline and will start to test the waterline.
Pahala:
No HE power at Pahala well. Pahala well currently on generator power. DWS customers
are asked to use water for essential uses only.
Precautionary Boil Water Notice for Pahala is CANCELLED as of 8/20/26.
Based on 8/22/26 aerial inspection, DWS waterlines to its water sources above Pahala
town are significantly damaged and not salvageable.
Spigots located on fire hydrant fronting Kau Hospital for Punaluu residents. Please limit
usage to your essential potable needs only.
Emergency standpipe fronting Kau Hospital for ranchers.
