Where Were You 55 Years Ago Today?

Fifty-five years ago today, at 11:52, the motorcade carrying the Kennedys, governor John Connally and his wife, Nellie, in an open-top Lincoln Continental departed for the city’s Trade Mart. The president had insisted on riding without a protective bubble top, all the better to see and be seen.
John Fitzgerald “Jack” Kennedy, commonly referred to by his initials JFK, was an American politician who served as the 35th President of the United States from January 1961 until his assassination in November 1963.
I was in school when the announcement came over the PA System and we were sent home. My mom came home about 30 minutes later and my dad about an hour later. I also recall, my parents and I still went to pick up their new car that just came in and was ready for pickup. The country was never the same again and we were transfixed on the black and white little tvs for the next few days, watching all the news and the funeral.
