About 1,000 people are expected to receive vaccination by appointment at the new major COVID-19 vaccination site at Honolulu’s Pier 2 cruise ship terminal on Monday. Hawai‘i Pacific Health, which is operating the clinic, has assembled 20,000 doses to start vaccinating seniors 75 and older, by appointment only. The site will have parking attendants and staff to manage the flow of people, and has additional overflow parking at Restaurant Row and Aloha Tower.
The Queen’s Medical Center will open a second large-scale vaccination clinic a week later at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center, starting with 2,000 vaccinations a day, and will set up a call center to help with registrations. When the portal becomes available, residents can access it through HawaiiCOVID19.com/vaccine.
Points of Distribution (PODs) on Kaua‘i, Maui and Hawai‘i Island have already begun Phase 1B vaccinations. Hawai‘i Pacific Health, parent company of Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children, Straub Medical Center, Pali Momi Medical Center and Wilcox Health on Kaua‘i will begin vaccinating more than 1,000 people a day and ramp up in the next few weeks to between 3,000 and 4,000 per day.
