This is a COVID-19 informational update for Thursday, August 19th.

For Hawaii County, the Department of Health reports 163 new cases and 1,504 active cases with 38 persons hospitalized.

As you may be exposed to COVID when you are out and about in our community, you should protect your friends and family by following the safe practices of wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing, limiting gathering sizes, and staying home if you are sick.  You should also frequently wash your hands with soap and water.

On testing, A community test is today in Hilo at the Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium from 12 noon ‘til 4 in the afternoon.  Due to demand gates may close sooner.

Clinics and pharmacies continue to offer COVID tests and vaccination.  Please visit the Civil Defense website for a calendar and a comprehensive list of all clinics and all pharmacies providing testing and vaccination.
