OFFICIAL REPORT…Helicopter Crash….Lava field between Ranchos Subdivision and South Point Road

13 HFD apparatus; 25 HFD personnel

Cause is under investigation

Open Lava Field

Ground units unable to access crash site which was located in a lava field more than a mile from nearest roadway. C-1 first to arrive on scene reporting 4 ambulatory pts and 2 with more serious injuries for a total of 6 pts.

Ground units unable to access crash site in a timely manner. C-1 initially able to extricate 3 ambulatory pts (18F, 19F, 23M) from crash site to ground medic units staging at the south end of Menehune Dr.  C-2 arrived on scene shortly thereafter and extricated most seriously injured pt (19F) to awaiting ground crews to initiate ALS protocols and went back to get second seriously injured pt (54M). C-1 extricated fourth ambulatory pt (48M) to awaiting ground crews. C-2 extricated second seriously injured pt to ground crews. Most critical pt then t-ported to Kona Community Hospital via C-2. M11 and BLS M20 t-ported remainin pts (all Bravo condition) to KCH. M20 pts transferred to ALS M06.
