Power Line wildfire at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
HAWAII NATIONAL PARK, Hawaii — As of July 15, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park officials announced that the Power Line wildfire on the southeast flank of Mauna Loa within the park has been 95% contained and remains at 42.5 acres in size.
Leaf litter, logs and snags within isolated areas in the fire’s interior continue to smolder. On Friday, firefighters continued to use hoses, hand tools and chainsaws to extinguish the isolated areas they could safely access. Falling snags from dead trees burned in the 2018 Keauhou fire make it hazardous to firefighters, as does the loose and uneven lava rock terrain.
