Official Report….MAHAIULA BEACH PARK Missing Swimmer

Under investigation by proper authorities.
A crew member from a 35′ dive tour boat reported that the Captain who remained on the vessel was missing after they returned from a dive. Rescue Company 7 responded it’s Sealeg 7 (a quick response vessel), Chopper 2, and Heavy Rescue 7 to Mahaiula Beach Park to establish contact with the boat crew and begin a search of the area. Chopper 2 was first on scene and began it’s search, Fire Rescue personnel on Chopper 2 spotted and recovered the body of a male victim approximately 30 yards offshore. Authorities are conducting an investigation to detemine the exact cause of death.
On arrival at Honokohau Harbor it was later determined that the actual location of the last known point was out side of Mahaiula Beach Park.
