Evacuation expanded …

This is a Civil Defense Brush Fire and Road Closure update for Tuesday, August 8th.

Hawaii Fire Department reports the brush fire that started earlier today off of Akoni Pule Highway, Highway 270 near Kohala Ranch will require expanding the evacuation zone.

At this time, Hawaii Fire Department is requesting the evacuation of the following residential areas;
Kohala Ranch, north and south of Ala Kahua Street
Kohala By the Sea
Kohala Waterfront
Kohala Estates

I say again, at this time, Hawaii Fire Department is requesting the evacuation of the following residential areas;
Kohala Ranch, north and south of Ala Kahua Street
Kohala By the Sea
Kohala Waterfront
Kohala Estates

Evacuation Shelters have been opened in North Kohala at Hisaoka Gym in Kapaau and in Waimea at the Waimea Community Center.

Hawaii Fire Department reports that the brush fire in Waimea near Lalamilo subdivision has been restricted within containment lines.

Please avoid these areas as Fire Crews remain on scene.
