Additional Testing of ‘Ōla‘a-Mountain View Water System Again Shows No Detection of 1,2,3-Trichloropropane

TAP WATER REMAINS SAFE TO DRINK

The Department of Water Supply (DWS), County of Hawai‘i, reports that additional follow-up testing of the ‘Ōla‘a-Mountain View Water System again showed no detection of 1,2,3-Trichloropropane (TCP), verifying the water remains safe to drink.

TCP was not detected in a water sample collected October 2, 2023, from ‘Ōla‘a booster Station #3.  This laboratory test result, received October 16, 2023, reconfirms a September test result that also showed TCP was not detected in the public water supply and further assures DWS’ tap water is safe to drink.

In early September, the Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) reported that trace levels of TCP that were well below its maximum contaminant level (MCL) had been detected in a water sample collected from a hose bibb located on DWS property and not accessible by the public.  DWS replaced the suspect hose bibb and has since been notified that TCP, a manmade chemical previously used during the plantation era, was not detected in any of the follow-up water quality samples.
