ABOUT: Through 20 years of high-resolution imaging at W. M. Keck Observatory, Nobel laureate Andrea Ghez and the University of California, Los Angeles Galactic Center Group have gathered the best evidence to date for the existence of a supermassive black hole at the heart of our Milky Way galaxy. Recent observations reveal its environment has surprising features, offering new insight into how black holes grow, how they impact the growth of their host galaxy, and how gravity works near these truly exotic objects.
