HAWAII COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT

SINGLE STORY POST AND PIER HOME WITH HEAVY FIRE AND SMOKE COMING FROM FRONT OF HOUSE, WITH EXTENSION TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE HOUSE. BYSTANDERS AT SCENE WITH GARDEN HOSES TRYING TO EXTINGUISH FIRE.
1280 square foot, single story home with the fire originating in the front kitchen/living room area and/or front lanai. HFD inspectors working to determine cause and origin. First in engine company from the Haihai Station arrived just 4 minutes after receiving the alarm, and immediately began extinguishing the flames. With the arrival of the Kaumana and Central companies, HFD personnel were able to extinguish all active burning 13 minutes later. A ‘live’ power line burned through and was laying across Alohalani St. A HELCO unit de-energized and removed the line from overhead. HFD units used the Thermal Imaging Camera to search for hidden pockets of fire and heat and completed overhaul by 1500 hours. No injuries, scene left with HPD, The Red Cross and HFD investigators.
