This is a Flash Flood Watch Update for Saturday, August 21st.

The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch for Hawaii Island beginning 6:00 am Sunday morning through Monday evening. 

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for flash flooding.  Flash flooding is life threatening. 

Heavy rain is forecast to begin early Sunday morning and to continue through Monday morning.  Four to five inches of rainfall is possible from the Puna District north along the Hamakua Coast to the North Kohala District.  Thunderstorms are possible Sunday Afternoon.

Due to the Flash Flood Watch, the following are issued:

  • All Residents in flood prone areas are asked to take steps to mitigate flood waters on their property and to remain alert for flooding conditions.  Be prepared to take action if a Flood Advisory or Warning is issued.
  • Flood prone roads and other low lying areas may be closed without warning due to flooding.
  • Do not attempt to cross flowing water in a vehicle or on foot; turn around don’t drown.
