This is a Civil Defense Flood Watch, Flood Advisory, and High Surf Advisory update for Wednesday morning, December 22.

The National Weather Service Flood Watch for the entire Island of Hawaii is extended through today. A Flood Watch means flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

A Flood Advisory for Puna, Hilo, and Hamakua Districts is currently in effect. A Flood Advisory means localized flooding can occur.

And the High Surf Advisory for east facing shores of Hawaii Island remains in effect through today.

Due to the high surf, Bayfront Highway is closed in both directions until further notice.

Due the Flood Watch and Flood Advisory:

All Residents in flood prone areas are asked to remain alert for flooding conditions.
Be aware that road closures may occur without notice.
Do not attempt to cross flowing water in your vehicle or by foot; turn around don’t drown.
Be on the alert for malfunctioning traffic signals and treat flashing traffic lights as a four-way stop.
If lightning threatens your area, the safest place to be is indoors.
