Hawaii Department of Health Revised Isolation and Quarantine Policy (as of 1/3/22)


If COVID-19 Positive Regardless of Vaccination Status

  • Isolate for at least 5 days and until symptoms are gone.
  • Continue to wear a mask for five days after isolation.

If exposed to COVID-19

  • Boosted, or fully vaccinated within past six months (or within past 2 months if J&J)
    • No need to quarantine
    • Wear a mask for ten days
    • Get tested on day five
  • Neither boosted nor fully vaccinated
    • Quarantine for five days
    • Wear a mask for five days after quarantine
    • Get tested on day five

MASK MANDATE:

  • Indoors = Required
  • Outdoors = Recommended in crowded settings and for activities with close contact with others who are not fully vaccinated (per CDC guidance).

SOCIAL GATHERING LIMITS:

  • Outdoors = Maximum of 100 individuals
  • Indoors = Maximum of 10 individuals

SOCIAL/PHYSICAL DISTANCING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Public Settings = Stay at least 6 feet away from other people (per CDC guidance).
  • Schools = At least 3 feet of physical distance between students within classrooms (per CDC guidance).

RESTAURANTS, BARS, AND SOCIAL ESTABLISHMENTS:

  • Masks must be worn at all times except when actively eating and drinking.
  • Separate groups are prohibited from intermingling.
  • Customers are urged to sanitize hands upon entry.

COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATIONAL FACILITIES:

  • All County of Hawai’i parks and recreational facilities are open unless otherwise sated.
  • Face coverings are not required at indoor County recreational facilities for individuals actively participating in recreational and exercise activities.
  • Events or activities over the permitted maximum number of persons must submit a comprehensive plan and be pre-approved by the Director of Parks and Recreation. Plans should protect the health, safety and well being of participants, officials, supporters, spectators and other individuals present (i.e., enforce restrictions on gatherings and physical distancing, as well as strategies for disinfection/sanitization of common surfaces).
