7 HFD apparatus; 12 HFD personnel

Occupants and their pets in the front yard. Fire and
smoke in the attic space

Cause: Possible shorted electrical wiring in ceiling.

HFD and HPD responded for a structure fire. Co-10 arrived on scene and found flames
and smoke coming from in between the ceiling and metal roofing. Other responding
HFD units were cancelled enroute. The electrical power was disconnected and the
ceiling panels removed. Insulation between the paneling and the roof were slowly
burning. The fire was extinguished. Additional panels were removed to look for any
further fire extension but none found. The two (2) occupants and their pets were not
harmed and did not require any EMS services or Red Cross assistance.
The Hawai’i Fire Department recommends smoke detectors in your homes; please
test them at least once a month and replace the batteries at least once a year.
