…FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM HST THIS MORNING FOR THE
ISLAND OF HAWAII IN HAWAII COUNTY…
* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall.
* WHERE…The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County.
* WHEN…Until 800 AM HST.
* IMPACTS…Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas, and in
streams.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 503 AM HST, radar indicated heavy rainfall intensifying
over windward Big island from North Kohala District to Puna
District. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per
hour.
– Some rivers in the area have already seen increased flows
with additonal rises expected this afternoon.
– Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Kapaau, Honokaa, Pohakuloa
Camp, Honomu, Papaikou, Laupahoehoe, Pepeekeo, Ninole,
Hakalau, Ookala, Mountain View, Glenwood, Volcano, Paauilo,
Pohakuloa Training Area, Keaau and Hawaiian Acres.
This advisory may need to be extended beyond 800 AM HST if flooding
persists.
Instructions:
Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.
A Flood Watch is also in effect for Maui County and the Big Island
until 600 AM HST Sunday.
