What’s open, closed for the Admission Day holiday

Admission Day, or Statehood Day, is a holiday that commemorates Hawaii’s admission into the union as the 50th U.S. state.

It is observed every year on the third Friday of August. For 2022, the day is observed on Friday, Aug. 19, and state, county and other government agencies have announced services and operations that are closed or modified.


What You Need To Know

    • Honolulu, Maui and Kauai county offices will be closed on Aug. 19
    • Parking is prohibited on Makalii Place in Kailua and on all streets and shoulders of Mokulua and Aalapapa Drives in Lanikai  10 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 19 through Aug. 21
    • TheBus on Oahu will run on its holiday schedule, but The Kauai Bus will run on its regular schedule
  • Regular public swim schedule at the K. Mark Takai Veterans Memorial Aquatics Center will be suspended in observation for the holiday; it will remain closed through Aug. 28 for the 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships
