Gov. David Ige left Hawaii for Japan Thursday for sister-state missions to Yamaguchi and Hiroshima Prefectures.

In Yamaguchi, the Ige will meet with Gov. Tsugumasa Muraoka, visit the Museum of Japanese Emigration to Hawaii and take part in a sister-state signing ceremony and reception
The governor’s itinerary also includes a visit to Matsuyama City and Ehime Prefecture, where Ige will meet with Gov. Tokihiro Nakamura
He will also visit Uwajima City and Uwajima Fisheries High School, where he will pay respects at the memorial to nine people killed in the 2001 when a U.S. nuclear submarine collided with the fishery training ship Ehime Maru
Lt. Gov. Josh Green is as acting governor until Ige returns on Sept. 3
