High Wind Warning and High Surf Warning message for Tuesday, February 28 at 4 PM

Civil Defense message.

This is a High Wind Warning and High Surf Warning message for Tuesday, February 28 at 4 PM.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for North and South Kohala and portions of Hamakua through Wednesday.  Sustained winds of 30 to 45 MPH with localized gusts over 60 MPH are forecast.

Winds this strong can uproot trees and make driving difficult and dangerous.

Please limit driving and being outdoors in areas experiencing high winds.

Please secure outdoors items.

The Wind Advisory for Puna and Ka`u Districts remains in effect through Wednesday.  Sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph are forecast.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Warning for all east facing shores of Hawaii Island from Upolu Point in North Kohala to South Point in Ka`u through Thursday.

Very strong breaking waves and powerful currents will make swimming dangerous and life-threatening.

Beach-goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials; when in doubt, don’t go out.

Be aware that beaches may close without notice.
