U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland visits Iolani Palace

HONOLULU — On Monday, Iolani Palace received a visit by U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, who was in Hawaii as part of President Biden’s “Investing in America” tour, according to a news release.

- Extensive repairs to the roof of Iolani Palace are being made possible through a nearly $500,000 Save America’s Treasures grant in addition to matching funds provided by the Hawaii DLNR

Once repaired, the new roof will prevent water damage in the palace and protect the thousands of cultural objects displayed within

Following traditional Hawaiian protocol to welcome U.S. Secretary Haaland, the Friends of Iolani Palace Executive Director Paula Akana took Haaland on a special tour that included an area not usually open to the public — the roof.
