Liberty stuns Hawaii women’s volleyball team to open Outrigger Challenge
HONOLULU — A chance to knock off a storied women’s volleyball institution like Hawaii, in Hawaii, represented a program-defining opportunity for Liberty, a largely unproven, private East Coast school.
For Hawaii, it was Thursday.
The upstart Flames refused to go away on the first night of the Outrigger Volleyball Challenge and surprised the No. 23 Rainbow Wahine in five sets, 17-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 15-13, to earn their first-ever victory over a top-25 team.
