Organizations urged to apply for grants to protect urban, community trees
HONOLULU — Grants to protect and enhance urban and community trees and forests are now available from the U.S. Forest Service through Kaulunani, the state’s Urban and Community Forestry Program, part of the Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry and Wildlife. Organizations statewide are encouraged to apply, according to a DLNR news release.
Community groups, schools and municipal and state government agencies are eligible to apply; for-profit organizations and federal entities are not.
Examples of potential projects include tree planting and tree care projects, developing tech tools for urban and community forestry or supporting professional development, education, and public outreach for forestry opportunities.
