Official Report…WATER RESCUE….Wailuku River, 1/4 mile from end of Kaiulani St, Hilo

There was a rescue at 1423 this afternoon. It was on the Wailuku river about 800′ beyond 286 Kaiulani Dr. down a steep cliff and difficult access. A 30 year old male jumped into the river by the waterfalls and hit a shallow rock. He was assisted to shore by two friends. He was air lifted out by HFD chopper 1 and rescue personnel and brought to a waiting ambulance at Clem Akina park that transported him to Hilo Medical center.
