Richard Akinori “Aki” Kihara, 88, of Pahoa died April 2 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born in Kohala, he was a diesel mechanic, proprietor of the former RAK Repair in Hilo, member of Honomu Henjoji Mission, AJA Bowling League and Orchid Isle Nisei Bowling Club, and U.S. Army veteran. Survived by sons, Gary (Debbie Connally) Kihara of Volcano and Clyde (Mari) Kihara of Pahoa; daughter, Cynthia (Cory) Shinshiro of Pahoa; brothers, Wayne (Carol) Kihara of Wahiawa, Oahu, and Leroy (Patricia) Kihara of Pahrump, Nev.; sisters, Shirley (Gilbert) Koga of Salt Lake, Oahu, and Mildred Kiyono of Kaneohe, Oahu; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces and cousins.
