Hawaiian Electric crews will replace utility poles in Kurtistown on Hawai‘i Island

HILO, July 15, 2026 – Hawaiian Electric crews will replace utility poles in Kurtistown on Hawai‘i Island on Wednesday and Thursday, July 22-23. The replacements will require a partial road closure of Volcano Road between Pa‘ahana Street and Puko Street while the work is being performed.

 

The volcano-bound lane of Volcano Road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22. The Hilo-bound lane will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 23.

 

Motorists are advised to plan for delays and to drive with caution when approaching the work zone. Flagmen will provide traffic control.
