Hawaiʻi County Reminds Residents of Vehicle Disposal Assistance Program Following Hurricane Lala

In support of the ongoing Hurricane Lala recovery and cleanup efforts, the County of Hawai‘i is reminding residents of resources available through the Department of Environmental Management’s Vehicle Disposal Assistance Program.

The program allows eligible Hawai‘i County residents to dispose of up to two qualifying vehicles per fiscal year. The program is free of charge, subject to available funding, and covers towing and scrap metal recycling.

The program is for residential assistance. Businesses, commercial properties, and vehicles registered to a business or company do not qualify.

Abandoned vehicles located along a roadway, easement, or public right-of-way should be reported to the Hawai‘i Police Department’s Non-Emergency Dispatch line at (808) 935-3311. When reporting a vehicle, residents are encouraged to provide the location and as much identifying information about the vehicle as possible.
