High Surf Advisory
This is a Civil Defense High Surf Advisory and Beach Closure update for Wednesday, January 1st at 11:30 in the morning.
The National Weather Service High Surf Advisory remains in effect for west facing shores of Hawaii Island from Ka`u to North Kohala through today.
A High Surf Advisory means surf will be higher than normal, shore break, and dangerous currents could cause injury or death.
Due to the High Surf Advisory, the following are in effect;
- Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
- Beach-goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
The following beaches are closed today;
- The Wharf at Mahukona Beach Park
- Spencer Beach Park
- Kauna`oa Beach and Mau`umae Beach at Mauna Kea Beach Resort
- Hapuna Beach Park
- Kua Bay
- La`aloa Beach Park
- Kahalu`u Beach Park
