…FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 730 AM HST THIS MORNING FOR THE
ISLAND OF HAWAII IN HAWAII COUNTY…
* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall.
* WHERE…The south through east slopes of the Big Island in Hawaii
County.
* WHEN…Until 730 AM HST.
* IMPACTS…Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas, and in
streams.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 429 AM HST, radar indicated a large band of heavy rain
over the Puna and Ka`u Districts of the Big Island. Rain was
falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
– Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park,
Wood Valley, Volcano, Pahala, Glenwood, Punaluu Beach, Kawa
Flats, Mountain View, Naalehu, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidlands
Estates, Keaau, Pahoa, Hawaiian Ocean View, Papaikou,
Pepeekeo and Fern Forest.
This advisory may need to be extended beyond 730 AM HST if flooding
persists.
Instructions:
Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.
Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
A Flood Watch is also in effect for the Big Island through Tuesday
afternoon.
