Honolulu Hale to be lighted in red for World Blood Donor Day

Honolulu Hale will be illuminated in red from sundown on Tuesday until sunrise on Wednesday in observance of World Blood Donor Day.

    • According to the Blood Bank of Hawaii, about 200 blood donors are needed each day in Hawaii
    • Honolulu Hale is being illuminated in red to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and as a message of thanks to those who donate blood
  • Last week, the blood bank issued a call for volunteer donors—especially those with type O-negative blood, in anticipation of the summer, when donations typically drop by 15% to 20%
