HPU student earns grant for stroke drug research

HONOLULU — A Hawaii Pacific University student has been awarded a research grant for stroke drug treatment.

Olivia Honaker has been chosen to receive $3,000 for her research from the HPU Undergraduate Infrastructure Student Research Center.

HUI SRC awards annual grants to HPU students for health-related research, funded through HPU by the National Institutes of Health. Honaker has been working as an associate student researcher and member of HUI SRC for three years.

“Olivia has been an excellent research student who thrives on challenges, shows great initiative, has excellent leadership skills and developed an impressive range of research skills,” said F. David Horgen, a chemistry professor at HPU. Honaker, a senior, has worked with Horgen for three years as an associate student researcher.
