Ige orders flags lowered in honor of Queen Elizabeth II

As Hawaii joined the world in mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Gov. David Ige on Thursday ordered the U.S. and Hawaii state flags be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of her interment.

“Her graciousness and her leadership will always be remembered,” Ige said, recalling her visit to Washington Place in 1975.

The flag order applies to all state offices and agencies as well as the Hawaii National Guard.

U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, posted a message on Facebook shortly after the queen’s death was announced.
