KAUAI OAHU AND MOLOKAI BEGINNING TONIGHT…

…HIGH SURF ADVISORY CANCELLED FOR NORTH FACING SHORES OF NIIHAU
AND KAUAI…

.A new short-period east swell will begin to build along east
facing shores of the Big Island and Maui today, and across east
facing shores of Molokai, Oahu, and Kauai tonight. The swell is
expected to peak Wednesday and Wednesday night, then gradually
decline through the weekend.

…HIGH SURF ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST THURSDAY…

  • SURF…Building to 6 to 9 feet today, then peaking at 8 to 12
    feet Wednesday and Wednesday night along east facing shores of
    the Big Island and Maui.

  • TIMING…Through 6 PM HST Thursday.

  • IMPACTS…Moderate…Expect strong breaking waves, strong
    currents making swimming dangerous.
    Instructions: Heed all advice from ocean safety officials and exercise caution. When in doubt, do not go out.

WINTER STORM WARNING THROUGH 6 AM HST WEDNESDAY MORNING FOR
THE BIG ISLAND SUMMITS…

.A band of deep moisture will produce periods of heavy snow showers
over the Big Island today and tonight. Snow levels will hover
around the 12,000 foot elevation level.

…WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM HST WEDNESDAY…

  • WHAT…Heavy snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations from
    2 to 4 inches, with localized amounts up to 7 inches are
    expected.

  • WHERE…Big Island Summits.

  • WHEN…Until 6 AM Wednesday.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Be prepared for icy roads and rapidly
    decreasing visibility at times. Roads to the summits will likely
    be closed to the public due to these hazardous winter weather
    conditions.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather
conditions are occurring. Strong winds are also possible. This
will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR HAWAII AND MAUI COUNTIES REMAINS IN
EFFECT THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON…

…FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON…
The Flash Flood Watch continues for

  • Kahoolawe, Lanai, Maui, Molokai and the Big Island.

  • Through this afternoon.

  • A band of deep moisture will move over the eastern half of the
    state and stall today. Convective showers within this band will
    likely trigger heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over Hawaii and
    Maui Counties. This band will move eastward on Wednesday. This
    Flash Flood Watch may need to be extended if heavy rains linger.
    Instructions: A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for flash flooding. Flash flooding is LIFE THREATENING. Do not cross fast flowing water in your vehicle or on foot. Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action if a Flash Flood Warning is issued. If you experience heavy rain or rising water, head to higher ground immediately.
