HONOLULU — The Honolulu Liquor Commission voted Thursday to hire Sal Petilos, the former director of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control in Salt Lake City, Utah, to be its next administrator.
What You Need To Know
Petilos inherits a commission that, according to a recent internal investigation, is rife with internal dysfunction, operational inefficiencies and low morale
Triggered in part by public complaints, the review carried out by an investigative team led by Hui Chen, an expert in ethics and compliance. It focused on enforcement operations, including processes, activities and internal procedures
Petilos is expected to start his new job as soon as next week. Anna Hirai, who has been serving as the commission’s acting administrator, will return to her role as assistant administrator
Petilos received a B.A. in political science from Rutgers University and a juris doctor from Fordham Law School. He is a former member of the New York and New Jersey Bar Associations
