Green announces $150M recovery fund

The state has partnered with Maui County, Kamehameha Schools and Hawaiian Electric to create a special fund, modeled after the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, that will provide rapid funding to those who lost loved ones or suffered serious injuries in the August wildfires on Maui.

    • The Maui Recovery Fund, part of the larger One Ohana initiative established in the wake of the fire, will draw from commitments of over $150 million from the four founding partners
    • The Federal Emergency Management Agency has received more than 17,000 applications for services and is committed to funding more than 18 months of rental assistance to those in need, Green reported.
    • Gov. Josh Green said that nearly 1,000 families have applied for relief funds via the American Red Cross, the Hawaii Community Foundation, the United Way and other charitable organizations
  • Green also noted the $12.5 million in dedicated state and county funds available in forgivable loans of up to $20,000 each for local businesses recovering from the disaster
