Civil Defense message.

This is a Flash Flood Watch update for Wednesday, November 29 at 7 in the morning.

The National Weather Service Flash Flood Watch for the Island of Hawaii is in effect through Thursday evening.

A Flash Flood Watch means flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

The National Weather may also issue Flash Flood Warning and Flood Advisories for specific districts of Hawaii Island.

Due to the Flash Flood Watch, the following are in effect;

  • For your safety, only local residential traffic will be allowed access to Waipio Valley Road from 6 AM today through 6 PM Thursday.  This restriction may be extended, if Flash Flood Watch conditions persist.
  • Residents in flood prone areas should be aware of heavy rainfall and potential flooding conditions.
  • Be aware that road closures may occur without notice.
  • Do not attempt to cross flowing water in a vehicle or on foot; turn around don’t drown.
  • Remember, if lightning threatens your area, the safest place to be is indoors.
