Haleakalā Crater Road Fire Update #2

Haleakalā National Park’s Summit District and Crater Road have reopened on Maui. Portions of Crater Road had been closed since July 10 due to a wildfire in Upper Kula. As of today, the brush fire is 100% contained and has affected 574 acres of open space.

County of Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety (MFD) officials are urging residents and visitors to use caution when driving Crater Road as fire equipment and personnel may still be present.

Mahalo to our first responders and emergency management officials for their diligence and keeping our community safe.

As a reminder, anyone entering Haleakalā National Park for sunrise viewing must have an advanced reservation. For more information, visit nps.gov/hale/planyourvisit/permitsandreservations.htm.

Mahalo,

Hawai‘i Tourism Authority
