Online Survey on Native Plants in Landscaping

Aloha! My name is Mya Manzo, a Master’s student in the Tropical Conservation Biology and Environmental Science graduate program at UH Hilo. Through my internship at the County of Hawai‘i Planning Department, I will be conducting a project to increase the use of native, drought-tolerant, and Polynesian introduced plants in commercial and public landscapes by proposing amendments to the County of Hawai‘i Planning Department Rule 17 Landscaping Requirements.

Throughout this project, I will conduct plant inventories to determine the current status of landscaping in Hawai‘i, interview key stakeholders to identify areas for improvement, and gather community input through this brief survey. If you are a Hawai‘i Island resident, I would love your participation in this survey! Your feedback will help guide recommendations for more sustainable and culturally appropriate landscaping practices. Survey responses will be included in my final internship report and public presentation at the end of my Master’s program.
