Upcoming utility work in Kona
July 22 and July 24, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
HILO, July 17, 2025 – Hawaiian Electric crews will replace utility poles in Kona on Tuesday, July 22, and Thursday, July 24. The work will require an intermittent closure from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.
On July 22, the mauka lane of Kuakini Highway will be closed near the intersection of Kalelei Street in north Kona.
On July 24, the makai lane of Mamalahoa Highway will be closed between mile markers 93.5 and 94 in south Kona. This work was previously scheduled for July 17.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and to drive with caution when approaching the work zone. Flagmen will be onsite to provide traffic control.
