We are sad to report that on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 29th, our officers were called to pick up a cat that had been shot with an arrow. The cat was found alive at Higashihara Park in Keauhou.

Unfortunately, due to the extent of the injury, she needed to be humanely euthanized. She appears to have been shot approximately 6-8 days ago. We believe for the type of blunt tip arrow head that was used, it would have required the shooter to be very close. The arrow type was from an intermediate type bow and arrow, specifically for youth.

We are deeply disturbed by this incident. This was the third cat that we have picked up that has been shot by an arrow in the last 2 years. Each instance was in a public place, which is extremely dangerous for animals and people.

We are urging the public to be aware and to be vigilant. This action carries serious charges if prosecuted. If anyone has any information, you may make an anonymous statement to Roxy O’Neal at the Hawaii Island Humane Society at 808-329-1175 or call the Police Department at 808-935-3311.

Opinion: very sad indeed…..
