I say totally honestly and frankly up front–If elected, I will stop those forces driving you and yours out of our beloved Hawaii. I will work just as hard also, in making conditions so that those friends and family already driven out can and will gladly come back to a Hawaii that is stable, affordable and respectful of the best of old Hawaii. I and my activist partner Renee Ing have worked with many forms of Citizen Action Round Tables, we call CARTs. I as Governor will, if you elect me, join with her and you in creating a truly new caring and sharing Full Democracy. There will no money-buying of elections. No political parties to keep us choosing up sides to fight each other into political gridlock. And, on the way there we can all learn about and really get true Affordable Housing, Lifetime affordable Healthcare and the Best-Quality Education through University for everybody. (D) IGE, David Y., For GOVERNOR, GREEN, Josh, For LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR
I am focused on improving the lives of HI’s people. We increased the number of affordable housing units and our homeless count is down each of the last 2 years – the first time in decades. I promised to cool 1000 school classrooms and we actually cooled more than 1300. We gave our teachers a much-needed raise, funded Hawai’i’s Promise, a program that helps students afford college, and pushed through the expansion of early college programs where high school students earn college credits for free. I also provide strong leadership on public safety, protecting our oceans and our aina, and use resources wisely.
We implemented strong measures to ensure HI’s financial sustainability and enable future growth. We cut waste, improved the stateʻs bond rating, and restructured how HI does business, saving the state hundreds of millions, while achieving the highest employment rate in the country.
I worked to protect over 40,000 acres of watershed forests on four major islands and protected Turtle Bay lands from future development. We also made HI among the first states to abide by the Paris Climate Agreement.
Born the fifth of six children and now the father of three grown children, all of whom are pursuing careers on the mainland, I understand the many challenges facing our families. My commitment is to lead HI to a brighter future where its people can earn a living wage, afford good housing, receive an excellent education, and pursue fulfilling careers right here at home.
I am running for re-election to ensure that the policies and programs we have undertaken to restore the public’s trust in government and make HI a better place to live continue. We have done much, but thereʻs much more to do. I ask you for the opportunity to finish the job. http://www.davidige.org/
(N) TERUYA, Terrence K., For GOVERNOR, ROBOTTI, Paul F., For LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR
We are a state of many wounds, some are minor while others need immediate attention. My main priority right now is the 27,000 gallons of jet fuel that leaked into Red Hill. Traces of fuel have been detected but action on this matter is moving too slow. This underground aquifer affects around 20% of our drinking water, this issue needs to be addressed immediately. Rail is bleeding our state, accountability is my main priority a forensic audit needs to be done. Last priority issue is a desire for a bill that would not tax unprepared food and prescription drugs to help relieve the pressure the Jones Act has on Hawaii. I am a specialized technician who has the experience of identifying and isolating symptoms , then I work with others to remedy the core underlying issue. For me everything has a logical way of being looked at. It’s not about blame, we are way past that, what our state needs now is someone who can look past minor issues and focus on the real problems that plague our state. Thank you http://www.facebook.com/teruyaforgovernor.com
(R) TUPOLA, Andria, For GOVERNOR, KERNS, Marissa Dipasupil, For LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR
I currently serve in the Hawaii State House Legislature as a Representative for District 43. I sponsored, cosponsored, and voted on multiple pieces of legislation that have helped the people of Hawaii such as appropriations for homeless services and affordable housing, enterprise zone initiatives, business grants, DOE facility improvements, Charter School initiatives, and Hawaiian Language support.
Outside of the legislature I have been very active in my community at addressing our housing needs, supporting local businesses, and championing educational initiatives. Iʻve held over 40 town halls, 4 Community Emergency Preparedness Fairs, 3 Entrepreneur Conferences, 3 Nanakuli Back to School Bashes, 4 Young Women Prom Events, 2 Statewide Sex Trafficking Awareness Conferences, 1 Statewide Tax Education Conference, 13 community clean ups, organized and executed a community mural project of 3,000 square feet, and many other homeless initiatives.
I am also the minority leader and serve on the Health and Human Services and Finance Committees. I lead our caucus of five members by helping to propose joint legislation, prepare the members with insight from all the committees, and lead our house minority research office of 4 full time analysts and 1 staff attorney. I previously served on the Public Safety, Transportation, Labor, Higher Education, and Education committees. Prior to serving as a legislator, I was a professor at Leeward Community College teaching voice and choir. I graduated in 2011 with my masters degree in Music Education from University of Hawaii.
I am running for office for three reasons: (1) I have the capacity to help more people, (2) we have systemic issues in our state that can only be solved with a new perspective. http://Votetupola.com
US SENATOR
Ron Curtis
“It’s only impossible until it’s not.”
“Things do not happen. Things are made to happen.” -John F. Kennedy
Aloha. I am a common sense, moderate, reform Republican running for the 2018 US Senate seat to represent the people of Hawai’i. While following the news coverage of the federal government shutdown this past January, I decided it was time to stop complaining about the problems in our government and time to become part of the solution. Our federal government is wasteful and inept because it has grown to the point that it is too big to be adequately managed or overseen. People are frustrated with the current ineffective state of our federal government and its divisive underlying partisan politics in Washington DC. Congress has devolved into legislating for the next election cycle rather than doing what’s in the best interest for the people of this country. We elected adults to represent us in congress and it has deteriorated into school yard bickering and fighting. So I am running on a platform of comprehensive change across the whole of our federal government.
“I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.” -Thomas Jefferson
I am retired at a good place in life. Through lifelong planning, hard work, good fortune, and making the most of opportunities, I was able to retire early on Kaua’i with a pension and a 401k savings account that will outlast my lifetime. I have always made an effort to live a pay-it-forward lifestyle. In paying-it-forward, the right thing to do with this senate race opportunity is to run for the US Senate for the people of Hawai’i. I have no need to run for office myself and any of the $174,000 annual US Senator salary that isn’t used towards personal senatorial expenses will be donated to charities in Hawai’i for our keiki. This will amount to approximately $120,000 annually going to those charities. Our keiki are our future and there is no better investment for our future than investing in our keiki.
“Working hard is important. But there is something that matters even more, believing in yourself.” – Harry Potter
I am an agent of change. I worked for over 35 years for federal government contractors as a systems engineer in a wide variety of roles across multiple disciplines. All my roles involved managing change and innovation, especially with new and evolving technologies, to deliver or improve efficiency and effectiveness on government contracts while significantly eliminating or preventing waste. The first 29 years of that career was working on government contracts in the Washington DC area for NASA, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Agriculture. I relocated permanently to Kaua’i in August 2009 for the last role of my government contractor career as the station manager of NASA’s Kokeʻe Park Geophysical Observatory (KPGO). I chose to retire in February 2016 to make more time for my aging ‘Ohana and to further enjoy life on Kaua’i with my dogs.
“For time and the world do not stand still. Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future.” -John F. Kennedy
I approach everything with a practical, grounded, hands-on, “rubber meets the road” mindset. My engineering approach to resolving problems and managing change grew out of best practices acquired over my career as an analyst, researcher, scientist, programmer, network manager, and systems engineer. I made a career around successfully using change management to develop and implement near-term and long-term plans at work and in my personal life. I am now seeking to apply my skill sets to drive change and improvement in our federal government as the junior Hawai’i US Senator if the people of Hawai’i choose me to represent them. If you agree that our federal government has taken a turn for the worse, please join me to start managing change and innovation in Washington DC to drive our federal government back on course to being more functional, efficient, and effective.
Mazie Hirono for US Senate Webpage
Mazie Hirono
Mazie Hirono grew up on her grandparents’ rice farm in Fukushima, Japan. When she was nearly eight years old, her mother Laura made the courageous decision to escape her abusive marriage and take Mazie and her brothers to the United States in search of a better life. When they arrived in Hawaii, Mazie spoke no English and Laura worked low wage jobs with no job security or health benefits. In elementary school, Mazie worked as a student lunch cashier in exchange for lunch.
Mazie worked hard and graduated with honors from Kaimuki High School. She went on to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where she graduated as a member of Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. It was during college that Mazie first experienced political action as a way to make social change in protesting the Vietnam War. She was part of a small group of young activists who recognized that protesting and marching wasn’t enough – they needed seats at the table to bring about change. Driven by her desire to be a more effective advocate for others, Mazie went to law school, graduating from the Georgetown University Law Center.
Shortly after law school and after a time serving as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Hawaii, Mazie ran for and won a seat in the Hawaii State House of Representatives in 1980, where she earned a reputation as a fearless advocate for consumers. She was elected Hawaii’s Lieutenant Governor in 1994, and was the first statewide elected official to stand up for marriage equality. Hawaii voters elected Mazie to represent Hawaii’s Second Congressional District in 2006, and to the U.S. Senate in 2012.
In Congress, Mazie has been a leading voice for immigration policies that keep families together; health care as a right and not a privilege; preserving the programs our kupuna rely on; and increasing access to quality, affordable education. Since the 2016 election, she has emerged as a leader in the resistance to the Trump administration’s attacks on our core values, including undermining the judiciary, degrading civil and voting rights, taking health care away from millions, and restricting immigration. In 2018, Mazie is running for reelection to the U.S. Senate to continue her fight for Hawaii families and people across the country whose voices are often not heard loud enough in Congress.
Mazie lives in Honolulu with her husband Leighton, mother Laura, and cat Kuromame. Her early endorsers for her 2018 reelection include the Hawaii State AFL-CIO, EMILY’s List, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Americans for Democratic Action, the League of Conservation Voters, Natural Resources Defense Council, and End Citizens United.
Hawaii District 2 US Representative Candidates
(R) EVANS, Brian
An author and singer, Brian Evans decided to run for Congress on January 18th, 2017. His reasoning was quite simple. “If you do nothing, then that’s what happens.”
We appreciate your dropping by to learn more about this exciting new candidate, and we invite you to browse the pages to get a sense of who Brian Evans is, and what he stands for.
Please contribute whatever you can, and let us elect a voice that is most definitely needed to the United States Congress! Do not allow the (R) sway you. As Brian Evans says, “I realize Hawaii is primarily a democratic state, but you need to give me the opportunity to show you that I am not your typical republican. If I don’t deliver in two years, I won’t even run again. I will be the voice for you, not partisan politics. As they say, “Actions Speak Louder Than Words.” Give me the chance to show the world that Hawaii matters on the world stage, and not just because of whale season.”
Both republican and democratic governors in Hawaii have issued Brian Evans with three Proclamations for his work to develop tourism in the state of Hawaii. He is not your typical republican candidate. He is a work horse that will fight to get the job done. Give him two years to prove it. https://www.brianevansforcongress.com/home
(D) GABBARD, Tulsi
Tulsi learned from a young age the importance of serving others and living aloha. Inspired and motivated by this spirit of aloha, Tulsi took this lesson to heart, and has tried to live her life dedicated to serving the people of Hawai`i.
From a very young age, Tulsi has shown a passion for public service. Her commitment to serving the community and making a positive impact has influenced every major decision in her life. Her service has included working with at-risk youth, joining the Hawaii National Guard and deploying twice to the Middle East, being elected to the Hawaii State Legislature and the Honolulu City Council, having the honor of serving Hawaii’s people in the U.S. Senate as legislative aide to Senator Daniel K. Akaka, continuing her ongoing work and leadership on environmental issues and projects, and now serving in Congress as the Representative for Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District. In 2002, Tulsi, at 21 years old, became the youngest person ever elected to the Hawai’i State Legislature. In this unprecedented election to the Hawai’i State House of Representatives, Tulsi was chosen to represent District 42 in West O’ahu. She was an effective, admired, and hard-working legislator who served on the Education, Higher Education, Tourism, and Economic Development committees. Serving on the House Armed Services committee and House Foreign Affairs committee, Tulsi brings to Washington an impressive list of credentials and achievements, a lifetime of real-world experiences compressed into three decades, and a deep storehouse of personal strengths and leadership qualities. Whether it’s advocating to help keep the U.S. out of another counterproductive regime change war in the Middle East, making sure Puna residents had a road in and out when the lava hit, working to strengthen Hawaii’s economy, protecting our precious environment, improving our keiki’s education, taking care of our veterans, or ensuring our kupuna’s benefits are protected, Tulsi is committed to serving the people of Hawai`i and America. https://www.votetulsi.com/tulsi-gabbard

Aloha, my name is David Tarnas. I am running for state office to be of service to the community that has been my home for over 32 years. My wife Carolyn Stewart and I have two children who were born and raised here, and are now studying at college. My experience as a parent, owner of a small business and as a public servant provides me a unique perspective on how things work and don’t work in our state. In the early ’90s, I was the UH Sea Grant Extension Agent for West Hawaiʻi and served as a two-term State Representative for Kona and Kohala from ’94-’98. For over 20 years, Carolyn and I have run our own business, a Waimea-based environmental planning firm. I have also been an executive with several local start-up companies in the marine biotech, aquaculture, forestry and agriculture sectors; and a director of several nonprofit organizations working in marine conservation, space science education, community health improvement, and primary school education. As an environmental planner and meeting facilitator, I have worked for established local industries including agriculture, tourism, ocean recreation, marine resources, astronomy, and education. I have also worked for new and emerging industries including renewable energy, distributed power generation, forestry, marine biotech, and environmental technology. And I have worked on public infrastructure projects including highways, harbors, and airports, and environmental management projects such as watershed protection, coastal park development, fisheries management, and marine protected areas establishment. My 32-year career in Hawaiʻi as a planner and state legislator gives me a solid track record of resolving conflicts in our community related to land use, natural resources, ecosystem protection, community health, and education. I am thoughtful and diligent, do my own research, and work collaboratively with stakeholders. My technical expertise and local experience will help me be an effective legislator. http://www.votetarnas.com
