Sun Country Airlines to Fly to Hawaii From SFO
Sun Country Airlines announced today that it will fly from San Francisco International Airport to Honolulu, Hawaii starting this May 18th.
Using a Boeing 737-800 with three different classes of economy seats, the Minneapolis-based discounter says that will initially offer flights on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Then starting June 6, Thursday flights commence, for a total for four weekly.
Sun Country is not new to the Bay Area. It currently flies nonstop between SFO and Minneapolis, Las Vegas, Palm Springs and Portland (PDX). It also offers nonstops from Santa Rosa to Minneapolis. Sun Country currently flies to Hawaii from Los Angeles and Portland.
When Sun Country and Southwest Airlines both ramp up flights from the Bay Area this year, we’ll have a total of six carriers in the market, which include: Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines (which offers seasonal holiday flights only). With that kind of competition, you can bet that fares will remain low and fare wars plentiful in coming months.
Sun Country says that it is entering the market this summer with roundtrip fares in the $520 range, plus $30 fees (each way) for carry on and checked bags.
