.An intense low pressure system will pass just north of the
islands today, resulting in giant disorganized waves. This event
may bring unprecedented coastal flooding to north and west facing
shores during the period of largest waves during the afternoon
today and into the evening hours. Anyone with vulnerable ocean
front property needs to complete their preparations now. Also due
to the Gale force westerly winds, rough and choppy windswell will
rapidly increase along west facing shores this afternoon and

SURF…Along west facing shores of the Big Island, rising to 8
to 12 feet late this afternoon and evening.
TIMING…Late this afternoon through Monday morning.
IMPACTS…High…Expect ocean water occasionally sweeping
across portions of beaches, very strong breaking waves, and
strong longshore and rip currents. Breaking waves may
occasionally impact harbors.
Instructions: Inexperienced persons should remain off beaches and adjacent beachfront areas. Large breaking surf, significant shorebreak, and dangerous currents make entering the water very hazardous.
