Kohala Hub Pub UPDATE (Delphina)

Just Received! EVENING LETTER from Delphina
Aloha everyone,
Today was a new day indeed! We want to again thank you for all of your care and gratitude and reassurance during this trying time. There is so much hope coming from you that the hope and planning momentum is already happening!
Offices and reception are being relocated, insurance work is progressing well and the employees are being looked after, even inspiring us to expedite a reopening, in a new form, that of the sleeping Blue Dragon! Stay tuned for more info.
We want to supremely thank the Kohala Fire Department chief and staff for their response and dedication to containing what could have been a much scarier situation. Investigations indicate that the electric fire on the makai wall were at the site of the electrical hookup installed earlier that day for the recently installed solar panels. Further investigation is pending.
We are also grateful that Ka Makani O Kohala, the winds of Kohala, were at bay that eve since next door houses a propane business with giant propane tanks while the other side houses the historic Kohala Village INN.
Even so, the HUB PUB and Luke’s building were basically gutted by flames inside and will need to come down as soon as possible. This will be done in the safest manner possible and I don’t think we can have you help with that even though many of you have offered!
Yes, it’s hard to imagine our sweet little gem of a town without this landmark, but we will rebuild as soon as possible. As our lovely bookkeeper Ruth wrote to me yesterday, “Dreams are not contained by walls … the dream shall continue … ”
With so many of you asking how to help: Let’s start collecting memories to keep alive the whole lifetime and varied eras of those walls. Please SHARE YOUR STORIES, whether just a few words, paragraphs or many pages! Photos, mementoes, etc., will be in good hands (even to borrow) and cherished, as well, if you know some tutus, aunties and uncles hiding such precious items in a shoebox!
As it turns out, that fateful fiery eve was the anniversary of our purchase of the property five years ago! Plus, we had just had the whole project reblessed a week before since the entire campus has been complete with remodels. We even added the rental of the cute cottage on Akoni Pule Hwy. to house a new Wellness Studio and the HUB PUB reopened with new killer management! Truly amazing.
It was an honor to play with the historic space with the intention of welcoming “all ages, all cultures.” Much of the campus does that, too, in additional ways to feeling you food! The HUB also nourishes through arts, culture, ecology and education – all for health and wellness of people & planet. That’s always been the deal and it will continue to be so.
For now instead of STAY, EAT, LEARN, PLAY you can still come STAY (soon), LEARN, & PLAY! We have faith that there is much good to come from this. Not an easy road but yet another honor.
Mahalo and blessings,
Delphina
