BIIF: Kamehameha softball clips Kohala 9-3 to remain undefeated

Brooke Baptiste pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts in Kapaau and Leiloa Bustamante collected three hits as Kamehameha beat Kohala 9-3, moving one win from an unbeaten BIIF softball regular season.

The Cowgirls (9-4) fell into a second place tie with Honokaa in Division II, and the Dragons can lock up home field advantage in their semifinal series with Kohala with a win Tuesday at Keaau.

The Warriors (13-0) cruise into Saturday’s cross-divisional showdown against Waiakea.

Kawai Kauahi-Raquel was 2 for 4, including a two-run double and three RBIs, and Kuulei Ili had two hits and two runs.

Baptiste allowed only a two-run single to Kayla Joy Kealoha and worked around six walks. Two of the three runs she allowed were unearned.

Mikayla Kekoa went the distance for Kohala, striking out five. The senior didn’t walk a batter but hit four, allowing 10 hits and eight earned runs.
