Flood Advisory

This is a Civil Defense Flood Advisory message for Monday, April 29, 2019 at 3:30 in the afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for the Districts of Puna, Hilo, Hamakua, Kohala, and Kona.

A Flood Advisory is issued when flooding that is not considered a significant threat to life or property is expected or occurring.  Flooding problems, such as flooding in low-lying areas and areas of poor drainage as well as minor flooding of streets and roadways are possible.

Due to the Flood Advisory, the following are issued;

  • Stay away from flood prone areas.
  • Heavy rainfall and ponding will cause hazardous driving conditions.
  • Expect possible interruption to your utility services.
  • Be on the alert for malfunctioning traffic signals.  Please treat flashing traffic lights as a four-way stop.
  • Remember, if lightning threatens your area, the safest place to be is indoors.

Again, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for Districts of Puna, Hilo, Hamakua, Kohala, and Konathrough this evening.
