Amanda Eller, 35, remained missing Tuesday, six days after she is believed to have gone missing while hiking on Maui.
HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 35-year-old woman who went missing while hiking on Maui more than two weeks ago has been found alive, multiple sources tell Hawaii News Now.
The news was confirmed late Friday afternoon on the Findamanda page on Facebook, which is run by friends and family members.
Sources familiar with the search for Eller tell Hawaii News Now that she was spotted by a helicopter on Friday afternoon, lying in a wooded area.
As many of the volunteers who spent countless hours searching for Eller suspected, sources said Eller appears to have been injured while out hiking.
The sources said emergency response crews were preparing to medevac her from the trail. Aside from the fact that she has been reported alive, her condition remains unknown at this hour.
Volunteers had been searching Maui hiking trails for any sign of Eller since May 9. She was last seen in surveillance video shopping at the Haiku Market at around 10 a.m. on May 8.
A day later, her car and belongings, including her cell phone, were found in the parking lot of the Kahakapao Loop Trail of the Makawao Forest Reserve.
