…WINTER STORM WATCH FOR THE BIG ISLAND SUMMITS ABOVE
12000 FEET…

.Layered clouds developing ahead of a disturbance aloft moving in
from the northwest may produce snow over the highest elevations
of the Big Island starting tonight. Deep level moisture is
expected to increase late tonight and early Friday over the
eastern end of the state. With very cold temperatures above 12,000
feet, these conditions will likely produce snow, which may be
heavy at times.

…WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH
FRIDAY AFTERNOON…

* WHAT…Heavy snow with total accumulation in excess of 6 inches
is possible. Plan on difficult travel conditions.

* WHERE…Big Island Summits above 12,000 feet.

* WHEN…From tonight through Friday afternoon.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Significant reductions in visibility are
possible.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant
snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact the summits.
Anyone planning travel to the summits, including hikers and
campers, should monitor the latest forecasts and consider
postponing their trip until improved weather returns.

Wind Advisory
Alert:
…STRONG WINDS ON THE BIG ISLAND SUMMITS…

.A disturbance aloft moving rapidly toward the islands will cause
strong and gusty northwesterly winds over the highest elevations
of the Big Island today. These strong winds may continue over the
summits tonight as the disturbance continues to approach the
area.

…WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST THIS EVENING…

* WHAT…Northwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

* WHERE…Big Island Summits.

* WHEN…Through this afternoon.

* IMPACTS…Motorists should drive with caution.
Instructions: A Wind Advisory for the summits means that sustained winds of at least 45 mph, or gusts of at least 55 mph, are expected. Motorists should use extra caution.
