The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the
* Flash Flood Warning for…
The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County
* Until 730 AM HST.
* At 409 AM HST, radar and rain gages indicated moderate to heavy
rainfall continues across a broad swath of windward and southeast
slopes of the Big Island. While rainfall rates have decreased
somewhat, into the 1 to 2 inch per hour range, the Wailuku River
remains dangerously high and reports of road closures continue.
HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
SOURCE…Radar and rain gages.
IMPACT…Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible
in steep terrain.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Hilo, Naalehu, Waipio Valley, Orchidlands Estates, Hawi, Pepeekeo,
Keaau, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Kawa Flats, Pahoa, Kapaau and
Hawaiian Acres.
This warning may need to be extended beyond 730 AM HST if heavy rain
persists.
FLASH FLOOD…RADAR AND GAGE INDICATED
Instructions: A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring within the warned area. Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry. Do not cross fast flowing water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. The heavy rains may cause rock and mudslides in steep terrain areas.

Alert:
…HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR EAST FACING SHORES OF KAUAI OAHU
MOLOKAI MAUI AND THE BIG ISLAND…
.Strong to near gale force trade winds will produce large and
rough surf along east facing shores through the middle of next
week. Surf may begin to decrease late Wednesday as the trades
locally and upstream of the state begin to decrease.
…HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM HST THURSDAY…
* WHAT…Surf of 8 to 12 feet through Wednesday, lowering to 6
to 10 feet Wednesday night.
* WHERE…East facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui, and
Big Island.
* WHEN…Until 6 AM HST Thursday.
* IMPACTS…Moderate. Expect strong breaking waves, shore break,
and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming
difficult and dangerous.
Instructions: Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Know your limits; when in doubt, do not go out.
